Under-Eye Rejuvenation — Filler, Redensity, or Neither?
Tear-trough filler is not for everyone. Candidates: mild-moderate hollowing with good skin quality and no obvious puffiness above the trough. Non-candidates: thin translucent skin, obvious festoons, or bags — filler will make these worse. Redensity 1 (hydrating booster) or laser skin quality treatments are safer first steps for most people.
Am I a good candidate for tear-trough filler?
Only if your under-eye hollow is genuine volume loss, not fluid retention or fat-pad puffiness. If pinching the skin under your eye shows healthy thickness AND the hollow is symmetric, you're likely a candidate. If the skin is paper-thin or there's already puffiness above the hollow, filler will make it worse.
What's the difference between tear-trough filler and Redensity 1?
Filler adds volume in the deep plane to lift the hollow. Redensity 1 is a hydrator injected superficially to improve skin quality and reduce visibility of dark circles — it doesn't fill the hollow. Many clients do BOTH in the right order.
How long does tear-trough filler last?
12–18 months on average, though the tear trough is a low-movement area so it can last up to 24 months. If it looks bumpy or blue-ish (Tyndall effect), it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase within 24 hours.
Why does my under-eye look worse after filler?
Usually one of three reasons: (1) product placed too superficially causing Tyndall, (2) overfilling in an area with any existing puffiness, or (3) fluid retention from the product itself in the first 2 weeks. Wait to full 4-week settlement before judging — and choose your injector carefully.
